Stewart’s Caring Place is moving to a new home at  3501 Ridge Park Drive, Copley, OH. The cancer wellness center is partnering with CAM, Inc. to construct a building in Copley that will nearly double the size of its current space in Fairlawn.

The non-profit organization offers a variety of free services and support groups for cancer patients and their families. Stewart’s Caring Place, which opened in October 2004, is named after Stewart Surloff, an Akron podiatrist who was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in February 2001.  The organization fills the void that can be left after someone receives a cancer diagnosis and they or their loved ones don’t know what to do next. Their programs are wraparound support services for the entire family, including counseling, a food pantry, yoga, debt management courses and financial assistance.

To date, Stewart’s has helped more than 944 families by providing more than 150 programs and services at no cost.

They have outgrown the 7,400-square-foot space currently being rented in Suite R at 2955 W. Market St. in Fairlawn.  The new building will be an estimated 12,000 square feet, allowing for additional programming, hiring new staff and expanding the volunteer program.  New features are expected to include a full teaching kitchen, which the organization doesn’t have now, to allow for cooking classes; a sensory garden and walking path; more space for yoga classes; and an expanded food pantry and wig room.

The organization hopes to be in its new space sometime in the second half of 2020.
